The W.R. Shaw Queen of the Land Festival, one of the main highlights of the Macra calendar, returns this weekend with 32 Queens descending on the Bridge House Hotel in Tullamore including international representatives from Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. The Festival is delighted to have W.R. Shaw back as main sponsors, the largest supplier of New Holland tractors to the midlands. W.R. Shaw operates from their new state of the art premises in Burlington Business Park and has been in the farm machinery business since 1982. The Festival will attract visitors from all over the country and beyond to Tullamore this weekend and the committee have planned a jam-packed weekend for all those in attendance.
On Friday, the Queens will be setting off on a tour to local attractions Clonmacnoise and Tullamore Dew, with the evening entertainment beginning at 8.30pm, with international act Ultrabeat taking to the stage after the official opening of the Festival.
Saturday morning will see the Queens interviewed by our esteemed judging panel of Christine Buckley (reigning W.R. Shaw Queen of the Land 2015), Billy Shaw (W.R. Shaw representative) and Anna-Marie McHugh (National Ploughing Association and Queen of the Land from 1989). On Saturday afternoon, the Queens will meet their escorts in Hugh Lynch’s, Tullamore. Evening entertainment will begin at 7pm, with on-stage interviews beginning at 8pm with comedian Frank Forde. Entertainment will be provided by The Greatest Day, Legacy and Joe Wynne with DJ until late.
On Sunday, the main highlight will be the Gala Banquet with the doors opening at 6pm and music provided by Secrets while the crowning of the W.R. Shaw Queen of the Land 2016 will take place at midnight. Weekend entertainment tickets for entry to all events (including gala banquet) are available for €60 and can be ordered in advance from Ger Mahon on 085-2471416, while gala banquet tickets are €35. Admission is also available on the door for the opening night, on-stage interviews and crowning ceremony.
